Kim Cadenhead
I love making art.
I make it for me - for my inner growth, and for my love of seeing colour on the canvas. Delicious, glorious colour. Being an artist and maker is my therapy, allowing me to work through my emotions and thoughts, the good and the bad (as a bonus, I get to keep all the cool art supplies).
I never really know where a piece is going until it’s finished. Each piece has a story to tell me and a name to declare for itself. My themes are a take on the human condition, expressly mine. Love, joy, family, heartache, to name a few. I draw inspiration from creative forces like Yayoi Kusama, Mika Mora, Emily Carr, Iris Apfel, Norval Morriseau, Mendelsson Joe and of course, Vincent Van Gogh.
Like all of us having a human experience, I’ve traveled through life playing many roles, with trials and tribulations along the way. I have explored, been creative, powerful, and weak at different times. I have been humorous and loving, but also spiteful and impetuous. My artwork is my way through - a way to purge and process, to provoke and delight myself, and often, the finished result helps others do the same.
I work in acrylics, mixed media, and collage/assemblage. I find myself at the beginning of a new chapter now, one where I crave new perspectives, education and focus to expand and evolve. As I continue to explore themes of human emotion, I am dedicated to working among my peers and learning from fellow creatives with unique perspectives outside my own to stretch myself further, explore new mediums and expand my purpose as a conduit for a greater understanding of the human experience.
